It is not my intention to compile extensive and comprehensive lists of links on these topics; many others have already done so, and I link to some of those pages here. These are just some of my favorite links. *disclaimer mode on* Nothing on this page is to be taken as official medical advice. *disclaimer mode off*

Lyme disease:

I have been living with Lyme disease for over a decade.

Lyme disease is caused by the spirochete bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi which are transmitted to humans primarily through tick bites. Early symptoms may include an erythema migrans (EM), or "bullseye," rash (typically red with clearing in the center), headache, and joint pains. If insufficiently treated, it can progress to chronic Lyme disease and can affect almost any system or organ in the body, including the brain, the heart, the liver, the muscles, etc. Lyme disease can successfully be treated with antibiotics if it is caught early enough, but in later stages it is much more difficult to treat. It is quite possible to have Lyme disease and test negative or "borderline," particularly since there are several strains, many of which will not be reliably detected by current testing methods. If one suspects Lyme, one must find a physician who is knowledgeable about Lyme disease to have the possibility fairly evaluated. Lyme disease has been contracted in all of the 48 contiguous states in the US as well as in many other countries.
